UK's Most Scenic Drive? Exmoor's Little Switzerland | England Road Trip Travel Vlog 27

Published by Darron Toy on

hello and welcome to travel beans I'm Emma behind the camera is Alex and today we are exploring Exmoor National Park and arguably one of the most scenic drives in the UK good morning all you lovely beans this morning we are in Minehead in Exmoor National Park we arrived at the white shade late last night and the drive here was spectacular as you drive towards Exmoor you have this wall of trees in front of you and as you actually drive from Minehead town to the YHA you're driving through all this forested land so it really feels like you're getting away from everything the location of the yha itself is located right in the middle of all this green area this is a great location for exploring Exmoor which is exactly what we're going to do today [Applause] we're making our way to a place we found called 21 mile drive which is supposed to be a very scenic and beautiful drive around here in Exmoor but the thing that kind of intrigued me is it's called Little Switzerland because I guess it resembles a bit like Switzerland and I always laugh that places have to be like little something this Venice is always the one that gets caught up like it like st. Petersburg is the Venice of Russia so to any city that has water is referred to Venice Venice yeah little venice the venice of something but like most the time with this channel any outrage from me especially is fabricated because I like to pretend to be annoyed but we also do that all the time like wow it's like this place like yesterday we said oh it's like the Lord of the Rings woods or something like that yeah I think it's human nature to compare things to what what else you know yeah we decided to pull over because well as well as having spectacular views up here we actually saw some wild horses ponies something like that so we thought we'd go and see if we can get a closer view I think they're the Exmoor ponies nice a bit like the New Forest I guess they just have wild ones roaming around you've changed drivers because the roads have got really really small and narrow and winding and this one for someone that travels so much is one of the worst travelers you're never going to meet because she is travel set constantly I get a bit of motion sickness on boats and cars especially but when she's driving nothing yeah I'm just fine we've just picked up ourselves and Matt from the tourist office to do this drive because it's not marked it's a dreadful map there's a particular scale and not that easy to understand but see what I mean Little Switzerland they're driving down these little winding roads is amazing so far we've just been driving through this like proper dense forest with this stream running through so I felt like I had to pull over and I really want to show you guys so come with me not too shabby eh I want to see two stuck in there me gonna go out I can see it so you're carrying on driving for like say another ten minutes since we stopped in that woodland area and now we're presented with this which is an incredibly dramatic view you've got linton village which you can see like in the distance over there and then if you saw yesterday's video we went to a beach that was kind of black rocks everywhere and it's very similar here so i guess this whole shoreline is very similar also along the edge of the hillside here there is a footpath which I believe is continued from where we were the other day so that coastal footpath goes all the way around the entire southwest this is definitely the best bit of the journey so far the road has got really really small and it's causing us quite the problems when it comes to other cars coming so far on this drive there is nothing Swiss about it unless Switzerland is nice and this is nice that's the only Swiss thing I get think about it I would say like a very like quintessentially English and then all of the nature I feel like I'm in a movie to be honest it doesn't feel like Switzerland it doesn't feel like England either I don't know what what this is so I don't know how many times we have to say it doesn't feel like England until it becomes England because there's just lots of things that make up this a wonderful country but this forest land and I know we're about to get onto the coast in a minute it's so dramatic I cannot believe that Anne's a teenager or a young adult I would ever say anything bad about this country I used to think England was turns out England's pretty bloody epic you used to bash it but you should have been bash it off to it PG please I'm so tired [Applause] [Applause] it's time to [Applause] we are now at the final stop of our scenic drive the valley of the rocks but we have decided after almost completing this little journey that little switzerland is not the right name for it we should be calling this little England because what obviously it's in England but it's quite all of the aspects of England that we love all kind of squeezed and condensed into this little spot called Exmoor it's got the beautiful quintessentially English villages fantastic countryside and landscapes amazing wildlife flora fauna everything you could imagine is just squeezed into the small space so the reasons we're here at the valley of the rocks is not only because it's geologically very interesting but also there are feral goats everywhere as we've been presenting this they're getting closer and closer we can hear them getting closer I feel a little intimidated because they are wild goats tend to headbutt things and I don't like being head-butted so I'm just gonna back off a little bit as they edge closer I hope this place has tickled your geological interest because it certainly took wood mine this is a dry Valley with a slightly interesting past the theory is that during the Ice Age a certain river was running straight into the sea then sheet of ice stopping and directing it a different way which was this way so this U shape was carved out by the river then young forgotten about that other River a view with the sheet of ice because that is melted now in certain point of time and then the water went back into the ocean leaving our poor little defenseless U shape to dry out you should be a geology teacher I see something you don't see behind the beans is that this one at the moment at least is going is nagging me why are you nagging me to clean my joke in the video my really good joke come on then sort spontaneously tell them your joke value of the rocks were like valley of the plops let's go chill everywhere [Laughter] makes me laugh [Laughter] [Applause] [Applause] now we've reached this viewpoint it seems like the perfect place to end our video thank you guys so much for watching hit that like button if you liked the video and let us know in the comments where is the best scenic drive you've ever done also for the UK subscribers here I'm sure there is a better scenic drive but where is it because I haven't seen it and it is in a very concentrated small area so bear that in mind with your recommendations finally don't forget to subscribe and don't forget to hit the notification bell and now I'm gonna feel like the king on the top of the hill I had all my little minions and goats underneath they're gonna listen to me scream thank you very much for watching guys see you next time and breathe

If you think this taste of Britain (UK for American viewers ) is beautiful and interesting, you should meet the British. The Beans are so beautiful and intelligent (Intreaguging, Intreaguging, intereauing, whatever) but of no comparison to the rest of our specimens on scpeptred Isle. I know a bloke who can drink 14 pints in one session and 7 pies.

Maybe it's called "Little Switzerland" because when you see the magnificent views you say, "Holey Cheesus" !!

I wonder if Little Switzerland is a reference to the price of drinks in the local hostelries.

truly lovely stream, that. does Switzerland have trees, green grass and very narrow roads? perhaps that's where the Little Switzerland comes from? and, speaking as an Anglophile Yank, yes, indeed, English is pretty bloody epic! it's really called "The Valley of the Rocks"? someone couldn't come up with anything more original than that??? ha! I see, it's named that for the GEOLOGICAL bit. ok. and you didn't think the goats would poop rocks, did you, so that poo is to be expected. 🙂
