The Breakaway: Stage 18 Analysis | Tour de France 2019 | Cycling | Eurosport

Published by Darron Toy on

Kanchana with his name in the latest chapter of the Tour de France Alpine Almanac the movie star rider with the win on stage 18 and the yellow jersey is to be had in these mountains whoever conquers these climbs with the myojin on his back is issuing the invites to the party in Paris and for nice Julian Elif leap is the man hiring the party planner Ryan Smith enter Bradley Wiggins are alongside me here Bryan's are asking for an umbrella because the hairspray or not to hold it I would say Bradley what about what we had on GC and we sort of disagreed over this a little bit earlier I think it was fascinating I guess you look at the top 10 in GC it doesn't look as though there was as much drama on the road but it had the potential to split wide apart today and we still got a great race at the end of it all I mean we saw a guy Ryan Thomas attack we saw egg and burnout at least I can burn our move above his teammate and what it gives us now for the next two days we keep saying this is an exciting looking race because now we've got in EOS lined up in second and third overall ready to take whatever they can from this race and in this unusual position Brian of trying to attack to attack to chip away and it's not working Julian our fleet keeps the yellow jersey what do they do well I was talking to the French before hunt and they thought he would lose some minutes today and he didn't and you know they were hoping that they would test out and Julian ala Philippe wood would go away out the the general classification loose time he hasn't so the half the attack but instead of maybe but now during the attack and Goering has to take control of this and not wait for the inside the last kilometer the last two kilometers he has to go from distance well let's hear what the game plan was there and from within team in heels here's Jonathan Castro Viejo's speaking at the finish Jonathan there was a little bit more workload for the team because the loss of Luke Roe did you notice that much today today we want a faster race from the beginning the break is already 60 gained off very fast in these are movies that put a very strong pace and after we will continue no button of the Bolivia and I think I don't know the over understanding but I think gluten yeah but now he managed to steal 30 seconds so G is still second and banal is now up to third is not too bad now first the big day tomorrow also is a big stage and next day also happens everything with the plan at the start of the day to take it up on the off to the is reward for putting us on this kind of stage is is difficult now right there's many thing they are strong and yeah you you need to feel the race before yeah we feel at the beginning that we go full guys and we stay come to the final and you have quick likes to be doing a lot of turns on the front normal like we all stood in the back now and maybe this day is the moment not to Prasad and a lot more hot days to come yeah yeah for sure thank you thank you well with just two days in the Alps between ourselves and Paris Julian ala Phillipe is still the man in yellow the delight on his face says it all he now has a one minute and 30 second lead over a number to that number 2 is still a team in EOS Ryder nigh though it's Egon Bernal who is a leap frogged his teammate with that guy right Thomas in third still on 135 Steven Cruz hops off the podium for an IT Burpee no losers position as well with Bookman can Tanner moving up landed around and valve already making up the rest of that top 10 so Garrett Thomas keeps the distance between himself and Jillian ala Phillipe but it's not about time necessarily is it it's about momentum as well as it's about momentum but one thing you can be for sure is Dave Brailsford is not going to sit there and second or third and be satisfied with that so with that in mind you know that they're going to take this race on the next two days I mean I can't imagine Dave wanting to finish second and third in Paris he's gonna throw everything at trying to win this race and if that means sacrificing one of those guys chances of winning this race I think they're gonna do that they're gonna have to do it on they yeah babies Brian well I think I think has to go first what they'll do is New Zealand tomorrow I think they have to take it on you don't have the firepower and I was a wee bit disappointed with the other teams Groupama didn't seem to have it and neither did their young bob is much so they know that no and you really have to take on the halftee step-up clea koff skier wall post Dylan van Bao wasn't setting a hard enough tempo masses back to help a la Philippe it's very very difficult and they're all getting very very tired but I think Gary has to take it on himself let them now follow and if he sees any faltering go across the bell now go across to Carrington the to them what together I think we'd rather see groin finished 15th in this race and try something of the the like that Chris Froome and big tour winners have done in the past and maybe lose everything then maybe sit in the wheels and finish second or third in this race I think it will here he already wins a lot of hearts he's got a lot of fans but it will be amazing to watch we'd like to see that what would Garrett like to see I don't know I mean I grind some winner Garonne wants to win this race and he's gonna try everything to do it I'm sure he's not gonna sit there and finish second or third Bradley's mentioned Amorites today of Brio spread he's a man who said early in this race that he looks for every opportunity to see where he can stick the knife in and then work out how I stood high is he gonna be feeling this evening Brian well he'll be maybe a bit disappointed ala Philippe Stowe there but he's still second the thoughts and the good thing about that the poster says bail now was moved up in the general classification he's looking the most dangerous rate I know we talked about p9 the Pyrenees bail now seems to be getting his legs again katana will be back again but everybody's looking really real tired including Aleph illipe but he cannot wait Garrick seems to be attacking towards the top of the claims remember when he lost in the tourmaline any he attacked in the last couple of kilometres he's gauged in his efforts like Bryce says he can't gauge these efforts in East attest should not run waiting for the man who gazes efforts to perfection today was Nauru cantana who took this stage when the third of his career at the biggest bike race of them all in his first of this year's Tour de France the 29 year old former winner of the Giro d'Italia former winner of the welter eye Spanier tipped for many a year as a potential winner of the Tour de France as yet not delivered on that ultimate promise but another win for the Colombian here in Valois today and it's another day for the French room and bar day dug deep to try to find his invite to the French party didn't quite find it on this stage when he finished in second in the end but he has taken the king of the mountains at Polka Dot Jersey that will be some solace for him won't it that's incredible yeah I mean what an amazing you know a week ago was the best part of week ago now we saw him crack on the SU law and I said at the time that's Roman bar days Tour de France over so you know just shows the resilience of that guy too you know recompose himself reset his goals big day out in the mountains he's been in a few breakaways the last few days and he's took the Polka Dot Jersey for a Frenchman we could have yellow and polkadot in Paris he had an invite to the party he lost it in the term early stage I know he's got it back he's back in the French party and I think it it's just a la philippe and pinot the success that they've had it's inspired him to keep on going he's that sort of radar you'll never give up it must have been really really difficult for them to go through that stage to go through the pyrenees be got himself there he battled for the king of mountain jersey and he's got oh he is a tough man Brian I have to ask if you're trying to show just right off who you are by selling the umbrella no I'm Scotty's nail just laughing because Bradley can't use his hands now is that your laughing fearsome is your angry face and your do you have the intelligent analysis right here on the breakaway well we we have had the starter I in the Alps it is almost time for the main course here is what day two in these mountains look like it's just one hundred and twenty six point five kilometers on the road from on the movie end we had northeast 13 those up paying attention by knowing I will know that it's a climbing distance that really matters though five categorized climbs on Agreed, these guys are GT oriented to a fault… listening to Stage 19 right now and BS continues to give Aliphilippe short shrift. Lack of objective coverage.

James Jordan · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

I still cant believe Naro did not wait till the 4th week to attack.

Ryan Sharp · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

note to all media – don't refer to geraint thomas as "G"

Wolf Dog Moon · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

I’m starting to think Julian won this race in the time trial!

Blackhawks #19 · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

I already said it, what are you guys complaining about the ineos bias thinking? This guys are literally british, what do you think they cheer for? Watch french, spanish, colombian TV and you‘ll see the same bias towards their teams. Like really i dont get this crying.

J NR · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

the climbs simply weren’t hard enough and descent into finish help JA. Tomorrow more important. Pinot was saving himself. They have to go earlier to finish off JA.

Stephen Lewthwaite · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

Brilliant Show. All the GC. contenders need to isolate Yellow and bring back 1.30mins or so. Then they are all in the race for the final mountain day. What a race that would be.

MrBoggins1234 · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

excellent chemistry and knowledge from all of the presenters, its great, cannot wait to see Peto back on your show after the final stage. Legends.

ssrevolver · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

D B · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

Ineos will end up with nothing by not committing to G

Vincent McAlpine · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

Why is this broadcast only on G or Bernal winning? I read Eurosport but it's more like UKSport

Stephen Pirsch · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

Pull over and eat. Says it takes twice as long! Does not make sense. Is it a race or not? Oh…it is a picnic. Would love to see a real women's race, and I bet they would also.

Eldon Looney · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

If ineos could attack to win this tour, it would have happened by now, they dont have it and there running out of road, not going to happen this year. The French deserve their tour win!!

John M. Arenas · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

Egan seems in better shape than Thomas, Ineos should put their eggs in the Colombian basket!

sriganesh2005 · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

Chapeau Alaphilippe! Go for it!

Juan Antonio Restrepo · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am

Do you think Bernal will win the tour de France?

Coco K · July 29, 2019 at 11:35 am
