Robot Restaurant, Shinjuku, Tokyo

Published by Darron Toy on

some women danced on their feet some women sat in chairs tied to the ceiling they were women on bikes buggies tank I wonder a neon giant plane whilst some were paraded through the air like some sort of futuristic dystopian female cop which I quite want to join robot restaurant opened in mid 2012 in Shinjuku Tokyo after someone spent 125 million dollars and building the venue constructing the robots and hiring the female population of a small city to come and perform everyday and three times as well after reading about how unusual this place was and being something of a robot fanatic myself a friend and I decided to go and check it out on our recent trip to take you and well it was pretty interesting and the whole thing kicked off fairly normally well to some degree with a female cult as I said parading around there tattooed leader shouting loudly and advocating soya milk or just soya in general something to do with soil and after a quick change of clothes with another another fairly normal performance which my friend particularly enjoyed all right so God and then it all started to turn right a weird giant robot called King rubato was wheeled out onto the dance floor and brought to life by the son of father Christmas before I start stumbling around and shouting inaudible words you'll be disappointed or in my case relieved to know that there is actually something in the robot and there is someone in the eight-foot costume then half the robot is genuinely a robot with the face and the hands that sort of just do their own thing it was a it was a rather terrifying insight into a future of giant dancing robots singing remixes of we will rock you and of course dancing to Gangnam style I wasn't the only one uncomfortable of being in the presence of this giant robot there are quite a lot of other robots dancing in Power Rangers style costumes and as well as members of the Albert Einstein fan club and they all seemed hesitant to share the dance floor with the 8 foot tall half man half robot half fucking nightmare robot swinging arms thing or perhaps they were afraid of the crazy man sitting on our left who was on a high dosage of fizzy soft drinks and women and and he must have been the one person in that room that evening to have succeeded in touching all the women in massive contrast to the overly excited da da left to our right we have Tokyo's most thoroughly unenthusiastic man I couldn't for the life of me establish whether he was genuinely unimpressed or just overwhelmingly sexually frustrated things then died down okay except they didn't because right then a fleet of women on giant animatronic robots made their way into the room and started to surround us before poking the giant robot thing in the face which it didn't seem to like very much because it started doing this a friend of mine even got to sit on one and put a stupid pose on it before driving it backwards and forwards across the room the cheeky smile it was about then that things started to die down except they didn't because just then a motorbike burst into the room the room turned into a giant scantily clad merry-go-round with women hanging from the ceiling then what happened oh yeah there was a woman riding around on an ostrich a woman being fondled assaulted cuddled by giant ladders and then some sort of buggy with half a dozen women drive into the room and my friends got the overwhelmed boil and then things got really mental because right then in a scene reminiscent from the world's greatest weapons demonstration a giant plane flew into the room and a neon tank drenched in women drove through the room crashing into the plane toys and yeah I nearly spilt my sanity all over the floor it's during this part of performance you'll start to wonder why real tanks are made of neon and covered in bikini clad women no self-respect identity soldierly open fire on it they'd be too busy filming it let's face it and and it was then that the tank and the plane turned around and disappeared offstage with a wave and the cries of goodbye the performance ended and we emerged from the place wondering what the hell had just happened even though whatever I saw it was bloody brilliant they say the best things in life are free they're not they cost 4000 yen and they come with a bento box dinner not that you'll be thinking about the food and after all you'll probably only ever do it once although let it be said there are definitely some that make a weekly pilgrimage the show may not have had all the robots are hopeful but one thing's for sure you'll certainly have a hard time finding a cabaret performance as interesting dramatic ridiculous as the one at robot restaurant

My kinda party, Line up the shots!

wickedk47 · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

You should really go back. We went there a couple of days ago and they have truly upgraded it, if that’s possible.

Rival Fn · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

But do they sell food?

Madeleine D · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

Your entire demeanor and tone throughout this video is less like describing a strange restaurant you went to, and more like a witness describing a traumatizing experience to a cop in a police station.

And it is hilarious.

Austin Dyer · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

I feel like all this insane stuff they do in Japan is merely a replacement for the fact they have no almost recreational drugs and work far too much. Perhaps if they didn't have these insane outlets for their confused energy then something truly awful would happen.

miyukichichan · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

Psychedelic AF!!!

D Roman · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

You are all composed, articulate, and witty in describing your experience, but judging by the shaky camera work I think you were almost emotionally and physically overwhelmed by the experience. That place looks like amazing fun and the "Robot Restaurant" is now officially on my bucket list. At this moment in time, I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I'm catching up on your early videos. Keep up the great work. This video had me laughing with your comments and witty British humor.

risendudelm · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

We went in July and still can’t find any adjectives to describe it. We keep defaulting back to “WTF”. Splendid night!

NaitomeIya · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

That performance was like an LSD trip! But I think I’d like to watch something like it someday. I like flashy performances! (although being in the red light district seems intimidating).

mal74 · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

Your friend reminds me of Sheldon, on The Big Bang Theory.

FunnyMonkey781 · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

Nice to see the robot resturant use the We will rock you vs robot rock track from Dj hero.

Shane Crowe · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

Anna Sisson · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

Derek Currie · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

We're just barely on the edge of real robots doing these sorts of things, no human females required. I'm not looking forward to it.

ando1135 · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

If I were straight, this would be my dream come true….is there a night when the girls are replaced with dudes?

Moretime´s Studio · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

You can't make that shit up!

Paul Harris · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

The Frog bar guy should merge with this place.

Jesse McCaffrey · May 14, 2019 at 10:11 am

Don't want to see this dude's face. I'm trying to understand what the bar is like….
