Restaurant Tapenade & Abe Restaurant (Manila Day 1)

Published by Darron Toy on

hey everyone its mark Wiens with migration ology comm I'm in Manoa the Philippines and had an amazing sleep last night and we have woken up at about it's 6:30 a.m. we are at the breakfast restaurant now I think the restaurant is called the tapenade so we are here for bright and early for breakfast and ready to eat we're on the airplane now this flight should take about two and a half hours and we will arrive in Manila I didn't know this at first but they served us a quick meal and I got the chicken in oyster sauce oh I have to admit that that tastes better than it looks welcome to the Philippines we are going to attend a conference here in Manoa so we have a hotel that they have put us up in and I believe the hotel is gonna pick us up here at the airport in the coming vlogs I will explain to you everything that we are going to be doing here in the Philippines but I'm happy to be here Oh a Discovery premiere okay that's where we're staying hello mr. Mar yes thank you nice to meet you oh this is a new hotel okay okay all right so we are getting into our room thank you very much it's huge yeah okay so this is this a this is like a family suite or is it okay oh man Oh amazing amazing oh thank you very much oh wow on the table they have the migration ology logo and my ebooks print it out in middle or those are those edible oh oh that's amazing nice I think gave us the presidential or I think it's the executive suite and this place is unbelievable it's it's huge and it has everything you could possibly need as a full condo there is a washing machine over there I think that's what it is there's a full-size fridge there is a table we haven't even seen the bed yet okay and the bedroom over here is equally huge okay okay you just pointed out to me there's a TV in the bathtub okay that is crazy they said everything is edible so I think I'm gonna take a bite of the eating Thai food guide in cookie format oh yeah yeah that's a cookie that's that is frosting that is a frosting eating that good guy and we are going to breakfast right now when we were in Taiwan I had a little bit of a vegetable deficit I know how to meat so I'm going heavy on the vegetables and the salad for breakfast today so this type of food all the salads and some of the cheese's and cereals they have for buffet but then you order up the menu your eggs and your main entree feels good to eat vegetables there were about ten different things I could choose up the menu but once I saw the Wagyu beef tapa I had I had no choice but to choose that option there's a base of rice there's some kind of garnish down below there two soft-boiled eggs which are somehow just magically sitting atop that rice without without falling off and then it's topped with a bunch of fried beef and then a little some sprouts on the top well that has to be one of the most beautiful things in the world and I just got to place a piece of beef on top of that oh okay that whole thing yeah that's a pretty big bite but I think I can handle it that combination of creamy egg yolk with beef and some rice is fantastic I have a really good friend whose name is Anton and he is one of the most influential travel and food bloggers and the Philippines and his blog is our awesome a couple weeks ago Anton invited me to speak about making food and travel videos for YouTube at blossom X which is a travel food blogger event here in Manila so after thinking about it for a little while I agreed and that is the main reason why we are here and that event will take place in a couple of days from now so for the first part of our trip we are staying in some sponsored hotels which were arranged by Anton and also by the blossom X event and so we'll be in some hotels and I'm not sure exactly of our schedule but I know we have kind of a set schedule right after the event Jung and I along with Anton will go to the island of Bora Kai which is a very famous resort beach island we'll spend a couple days there and then we will return back to Manila and I'm hoping once we return we'll have a couple days to just do some sightseeing and wandering around and eating I'm not sure all that's gonna happen but I know we do have a pretty set schedule for today and the next couple days but I will be doing my best to just vlog and blog about everything we do spend a couple hours in the hotel this morning doing some video editing from the Taipei videos but now we are gonna go walk around the hotel for a little bit and then have lunch with the executives of this hotel we are at tapenade restaurant and they serve Mediterranean food we're gonna start with the salad bar and then proceed through this amazing looking menu oh and I just out of the corner of my eye I noticed the ribeye steak we're going into the salad bar and one of the highlights of the salad bar are the fresh oysters salad bar is beautiful just a very wonderful fresh selection of vegetables and salad ingredients but the main event are the fresh local Filipino oysters which I could not resist and I'm gonna grab one I can just see all that juice in it just melting in my mouth right now oh that is awesome is this kind of an appetizer dish yeah it's kind of an effort okay one of their signature appetizer dishes is toasted bread with a side of feta cheese which there are I can see tomatoes in here and garlic alright that's looking perfect oh that's ridiculous all that cheese is so creamy it's almost unbelievable with just a little bit of a sweetness from those tomatoes I think that's just like pure salty cream this one is Greek shrimp for the Sony and you can see below here it almost looks like grains of rice but that is pasta and then some jumbo meaty looking prawns stacked on top of there and then over here is the rib eye which is crusted in porcini and yeah I think it is cooked medium-rare that is looking incredible and then topped with what looks like a handful of rocket I think there's some balsamic dressing on it as well and then you can see that that crust that black in the crust okay let me get that that piece and some of that rocket on there that is even more tender than I thought it was gonna be when I put my fork into it oh that's that's buttery that is juicy that edge that blackened edge around the outside has a really nice like roasted flavor to it and then that that rocket gives it a little bit of a an herbaceous taste I'm gonna go in for some of the pasta now and grab one of these jumbo shrimps Oh that is delicious as well the shrimp extremely fresh and very meaty and very firm and then the pasta is very well the sauce isn't like a tomato sauce but very light and very delicate and then the pasta just like melts into that tomato sauce we finished with lunch at tapenade restaurant big thank you to the chef and also thank you to miss Anna as well as Jane and Raph who we had lunch with very nice and thank you very much for lunch we are hanging out for a bit and I'm thinking about taking a little swim right now the pool is really nice and they said it's heated pool as well as an infinity edge with the overlooking Makati are you on okay I the pool is heated and at first I thought it was gonna be too hot because it's quite warm outside but it feels incredible it's just it feels I probably like my body temperature so it's just warm and it barely just did so relaxing it's about 4:45 p.m. we are walking out of the hotel now and on our way to meet Anton and he has a class like a blogging class that we're gonna go hang out with right now it's looking a little bit rainy so I hope we can get there before it starts raining we didn't make it in time it started raining not raining too hard but we're gonna wait like a couple of minutes to see if it slows down we're gonna make a run for it and I'm gonna put my camera in its bag right now yeah we arrived at this place is called Kickstarter we're gonna go see in time and yeah alrighty 101 we spent about an hour in Anton's class which is a class about kind of marketing online that has now ended and we are on our way to go have dinner with Anton okay we're jumping into an uber and it's still it rained pretty hard in the afternoon thank you we got out of the taxi and we are at a shopping center now and we're walking to one of Anton's favorite Filipino restaurants called a peg this is sinigang soup which is a sour soup and this one is made with ripe guava and I can as he was dishing it out I could smell the guava aroma which smells very kind of fruity and then it's made with fish and it looks very thick and looks really good has a little bit of a sour flavor and then just a hint of a sweetness to it but a very kind of kind of like a fruity almost a pumpkin flavor to it Anton has done an excellent job at ordering a spread of food and one of the signature dishes here a table a restaurant is their lamb adobo which is right there this is with pork or oxtail okay traditional traditional is oxtail okay so oxtail Kanaka day with served with shrimp paste there is some sisig there which is one of the national dishes in the Philippines and then what is this one Oh baby squid okay this one is baby squid with I can see a big red chili in there and some herbs and then finally a big deep fried fish which is served with goo Rome Bhutan which is a fermented rice like paste it looks like and then serveth these vegetables I got to check out that lamb adobo first just fall apart tender and what I also really like is there some pride some deep-fried pieces of garlic on top which give it a really nice fragrance for the stations grab one of mustard varying leaves and as this is the fermented rice paste which looks looks like melted butter amongst and then you put it in that you think that's enough alright let's try that and then put a piece of the fish into there stood that into the leaf the leaf is a little bit bitter the fish is crispy and then the rice fermented rice is it doesn't really taste that fermented but it sort of has a kind of just a very mild sourness to it really good actually that's a that's a delicious combination you have the salty fish the sour fermented rice and then the bitter greens we're back at the hotel now that was a delicious dinner I loved everything but especially that lamb adobo was fantastic I'm gonna go take a shower now and call it a day so I want to thank you very much for watching this vlog please remember to give it a thumbs up and leave a comment below and I will see you on the next video

I also had pizza at Shakey's and I must admit it was the worse pizza I ever had in my life.

Just came back from the Philippines and I must say the food was very disappointing. Very low quality ingredients…lack of vegetables…yuck.

I wish a had a wife like yours who is very adventurous on eating. My wife is a little picky. No pork and barely beef, so I'm stuck with chicken and turkey most of the time. Hmm so much huh!! I'll be quacking in next thing you know.

I smile along with you each and every time you taste and sample foods from all around the world. I can almost taste the food through your expressions on your face each and every single time. Your the best. I hope to see you touring mid to Northern Italy's soon with their seafood, tripe and obviously seafood pasta dishes. Please don't forget their Baccala (salted Code) along with polenta (Corn meal) and octopus dishes. For what it's worth they are famous for their rabbit dishes as well and lets not forget their cheeses and prosciutto meats. Ciao for now. Dan
