You would think that the Nepal govt would understand the importance of limited permits and making sure that climbers have enough experience. But sadly it's all about the money and they will continue to give out unlimited permits because all they really care about is money. They don't care about the huge amount of trash that is left every season. They don't really care about deaths, why would they, fees are already paid. And they certainly don't care about the Sherpas.

INTOtheVOID11 · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Everest has long been ruined by rich douchebags who want to brag to their rich douchebag friends that they "climbed" Everest. The sherpas are the only real ones on that mountain, the rest of the real mountaineers would never go to Everest.

I am not anti-capitalist, however, it's not difficult to see the effect money grubbers have on the environment and lives. It's also a reflection of how the legal system is in bed with the money grubbers.

James Lade · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

And they use ladders to climb Mount Everest now? I don’t think that’s how they used to do it

James Lade · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Should be a daily limit on climbers. And a very high standard for people allowed to get permits. This is really ridiculous. And I think even if I was a climber I would not go there. Looks like a traffic jam

Ярослав Отачук · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Не можна видавати таку кількість пермітів, з такими чергами, якщо зіпсується погода , то там буде велика трагедія!!!

Renaud Chomette · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Classic human stupidity. Sorry these people are not Mountain lovers. They trash the Mountain beyond level we can understand (feces in water). One of the rules of climbing is "leave no trace" (blue bag anyone?) among other things. These "climbers" don't have my respect (the Shepas do, they are the real people there, have climbed the summit tons of times and assisted struggling tourists to make sure they summit, pathetic) and they should hold their collective breaths and sounds the Marianna's Trench. No one cares about Earth, just about themselves.

Has anyone got laid at the top yet? Now that would be a milestone!

John Kaszanek · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Someone should set up a coffee shop at this point. Would do great business.

Anonymous User · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Just install stairs or an escalator, at this point it’s no longer anything special to climb Everest.

Jakedegaye · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

The community should make other Mountains attractive to climbers..
Make Gorgeous documentaries about equally Dangerous mountains ..
Personally I wish I had the skill set to Traverse the Matterhorn…

vegan fit mumma · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

It should only be for the super fit and you should have to take tests before you climb
They are risking their lives and the lives of the people who take them up their
For once just leave nature alone
Some things need not to be explored

KindaCool · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

All you have to do is limit the amount of people climbing at once.

JOEL DIZON · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

I'd put up a cable car system and charge regular fare to ride up, dismount, stand a few seconds at the summit, snap a couple of selfies, then get back to the cable car and ride down. Or put up a long sliding tube, make folks wear a harness with a drag chute and plop them down the slide tube straight to base camp…oh, we're talking about reality here? I thought we were throwing up ideas for a cartoon movie script. Sorry…

Eric x · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

These deaths are funnier than regular selfie deaths.

Ryan · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

The human ego. There is nothing to gain, but to brag. You can’t even stay and enjoy the view. Just dumb. 🤦‍♂️

loyem limbu · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Going to put cable car 2 way no traffic easy to get on top.no need experience…

Christopher Spavins · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

This is a death trap for stupid wealthy tourists. They should have a lottery for those that want to do the climb and severely limit numbers. People should also pay a deposit if they should die on the climb to cover costs of body removal.

Mark graham · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Not a climber, but I am an engineer, and looking at how many people appear tied into the same ropes, I can't help but wonder what the hell they are thinking. One person slips and falls into another, who who falls into another and this dominoes until you soon have 25 plus people who snap that rope and slide down the mountain. I hope someone is thinking about this.

Sweetness · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

I'm waiting for a Starbucks & Mc D to open on the Summit , it's gone so commercialised.

Nolan Gleason · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Whatever why don’t you do something that helps people

Sunset to Port For JCB · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

The more wealthy die the better….I wish 3x number would climb it…..no O2 allowed

Blond Dee · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

I think they need to stop the climb altogether, so many people disrespect the mountain, 😢

Johnny Marlin · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Care factor xero for the planet is to over populated with Rich people anyway.

Kerkopes · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

What better place for a bunch of insecure narcissists to queue? They should put a Starbucks up there … at least give them some hope.

legendschippy · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

It's disrespectful to say the people who died this year are just inexperienced people looking to climb the mountain

Kenneth Simmons · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

I think Everest wants to be left alone at this point.

bscottb8 · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Everest in Peace.

Scott Gibson · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

I feel for the Sherpas who have to deal with these tourist who have no business climbing a 8000 meter Mt. leave the big Mt. to real Mt. climbers, there are so many adventures to be had that dont involve killing yourself and others.

Rukhsana Khan · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Dont know why would they do that…

Daniel Tadros · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Did any of these idiots see the 2015 movie Everst? No one needs to climb this mountain.

Yvonne A · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

I wish I was there. I think its a challenge.

flameout12345 · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

death is also the attraction

Me · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

THIS GUY IS 62????!!!!! He looks 25.

Grant Goldberg · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Less rich dentists out there. They should issue even more permits. Thin the herd.

Lord Vader · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Why doesnt someone just drag them off the mountain and watch the carnage?

EconMan · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

The price is too low

wannabe to wasabe · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

Fees for each climbing permit is a substantial revenue source for the government of Nepal. I had a career and was involved in wilderness management for over half my career, mostly in the Sierra Nevada of California where demand for wilderness use is quite high. I worked on the Inyo National Forest for the last 11 years of my career, which is the forest the Mt. Whitney trail is located on. We used scientifically gathered data of various kinds, both biological and sociological then had scientifically based analysis methods to establish use limits or daily trailhead quotas. There is a day use hiking limit for the trail up to the top of Whitney as well as the obvious need for a overnight limit. Yosemite National Park recently established a use limit for summiting Half Dome and the famous cables used for non technical ascents of it. As the population grows and demand increases I would expect use limits for other areas to be needed.

There is methodology available for establishing use limits once some data on use amounts and patterns are gathered. Nepal is going to have to bite the bullet to prevent the scenes we have been seeing for quite a number of years now. I've heard of traffic jambs at the Hillary Step for about 10 years now. In this case there are significant hazards that develop when demand is very high. Nepal is going to have to choose between safety and revenue or possibly charge much more per permit with fewer permits being issued. As we know, this approach can backfire as the retail and service industries have found out.

fernando g. aguirre · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

peter chow · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm

taylor8492 · May 30, 2019 at 7:36 pm
