Louisville woman celebrates 80th birthday with trip to firehouse that helped name her

BIRTHDAY. SHE SPENT IT VISITING BOTH THE
OLD AND NEW ASHLAND AVENUE. FIREHOUSES. HER FATHER SPENT A LOT OF TIME
HERE TOO.>>HE WAS STATIONED HERE FROM
THE TIME HE WENT INTO THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT UNTIL, I AM PRETTY
SURE AFTER HE GOT BACK FROM
WORLD WAR II. REPORTER: HE DIDN’T JUST FIGHT
FIRES. WE GOT THIS PHOTO OF HER FATHER
DURING HIS TIME SERVED IN THE
NAVY.>>OH MY GOSH, I CAN’T BELIEVE

SHARED HER FATHER’S PERSONNEL
FILE AS AN EXTRA GIFT. BORN IN 1911, THE FILES REVEALED
HER DAD JOINED THIS FIREHOUSE AT
23 YEARS OLD. SHIRLEY TOLD THEM 80 YEARS AGO
HER DAD CALLED HIS FELLOW
FIREFIGHTERS MOMENTS AFTER HER
BIRTH. HE NEEDED A NAME, SO THE CAPTAIN
HELD A BRAINSTORMING MEETING AT
THIS OLD FIREHOUSE.>>WHO IS FOR SHIRLEY ANN, AND
EVERY MAN OF COURSE WENT —

SO THAT IS HOW I GOT NAMED
SHIRLEY ANN. REPORTER: THEY SHOWED PHOTOS AND
