LiveU Solo — Go LIVE from Remote Locations with this Wireless HDMI Live Streaming Device

Published by Darron Toy on

– So let’s say that you want to go live on YouTube or Facebook from the field, but you don’t have a
solid internet connection. This LiveU Solo allows
you to bond together two different 4G hot spots so you can have a reliable stream from a GoPro or any camera and we’re gonna be talking about
it in this video coming up. (camera clicks) (electronic music) – Hey, what’s up guys. Sean here with THiNk Media TV, helping you go further faster in media and we’re here at the
Facebook Live streaming area and I’m here with Kellan from LiveU. How’s it goin’? – It’s going good, thanks. – Awesome. So we’re
checking out this device, and what it really does is it allows you to take two different hot spots that you could get from any provider, bond those connections together so you have a lot more bandwidth anywhere. So let’s say you’re off
the grid a little bit, or you’re in a crowd, or you’re at an event, or you’re even trying to
show some extreme sports or something like that, you’re able to do reliable streaming to Facebook or to YouTube. So tell us a little bit about
this and some of the features. – So, this unit right here, like you said, we bond cellular signals together, so as long as you have a
cell signal wherever you are, you can stream to your Facebook page or your YouTube page. And it’s got a ton of features to make sure you have a reliable stream. We do arrow correction. We do adaptive bit rate, things like that. So really you can stream wherever you are to your Facebook page. – And what are the inputs on here? What kind of cameras could you use? – Any HDMI or SDI camera
you can use with this unit. And it supports full 1080 P60 streams. – Got it. So Facebook’s
only 720 right now, so if you had a 1080 camera it would just be outputting 720. But what’s cool is you could
go 1080p to YouTube live from a camera like this. Any camera that you can
get an HDMI cable out of can basically plug into this device. So, super cool. What are some of the use cases
that are happening right now? – So a lot of the use cases for this are online news
organizations use it a lot. Professional streamers. Maybe you’re not quite broadcast quality but you still want a
professional looking stream. We got a lot of people streaming weddings and different events. Things like that. It really has a lot of
applications for this product. – And what’s really cool about it, again, is some of those advanced features, is it’s doing a lot of the heavy lifting to make sure that your stream stays solid. If you’ve ever been on Facebook Live and it’s starting to say, “Uh oh, signals weak.” and then the stream completely stops, it’s doing a lot of things on the back end to keep your stream strong and going so that you can keep your audience and your viewers engaged. So what’s the investment to
get in to something like this? – So, the investment for this is, this piece of hardware costs $1,500 and then for the cloud services, the extra advanced
technology, it’s $45 a month. – Now, one of the things
that I loved about this is that you have just
push button to support to Facebook, Periscope,
Switchboard, Twitch, YouTube, Wowza, as well as
APIs to Ustream and whatnot. So how does that work? It just makes it real easy to
go live on a few platforms, but really supports everything, right? – Exactly. You can go live
to any online platform that supports RTMP. We just work very closely with
these particular companies for their one-touch streaming, and we have API integration for all of the companies
listed on this page. – And so definitely a pro solution so if you need some heavy lifting in the field for live streaming, something cool to check out. Question of the Day. Do you ever go live from the field? Where have you done
some live streams from? And what have they been like? Have you done it just off your phone? On LTE? Let me know in
the comment section below. So thanks so much for
checking out this video. Definitely click here to subscribe for more of our coverage from NAB and you can check out the
entire playlist from NAB by clicking here or we’ll link it up in the description below. Until next time, THiNK Media TV is helping you go further faster in media. Keep crushing it and we will talk soon.

Joel Young · May 11, 2017 at 2:15 pm

Seems like live streaming is going to be a big thing in the very near future. I get that, but I still love the art of recorded video. Gives the creator the opportunity to tell the story the way they want to tell it 🙂

what is the difference? it cost more and do the same thing

Does this box support Sony's? I have a Sony AX-53

RedBlueTalk · May 12, 2017 at 5:40 pm

To stream live in the field, I put phone in airplane mode, then use Wi-Fi with a Verizon 4G LTE Jetpack. That way a call doesn't interrrupt the stream. External battery on the phone is helpful too.

Spencer Reed · May 13, 2017 at 9:00 pm

I've been thinking about live streaming on YouTube but this might make me try

sinbad13 · June 8, 2017 at 8:07 am

What up man Sean? Great seeing you at NAB. My son and I jumped on the liveU solo train and picked up a couple units. We have been streaming backstage at shows, in airports, in hotels, in the car… You name it… We are streaming from there. I love your videos, and recommend them to people trying to Geta handle on all this tech, stay funky and stay nerdy…

exit8tvlive · June 13, 2017 at 7:42 am

i believe the VIDIU PRO costs less and can bond up to 4 connections. So while this product is awesome the price point is not competitive and so i id just get the VIDIU PRO

Life Meets Family · July 2, 2017 at 3:38 am

Why is there a monthly charge?… Like WHAAAT… no need.

cyvidal10 · July 21, 2017 at 11:22 am

mitch oates · August 17, 2017 at 12:24 am

Live streamed my self doing a backflip in a WW2 plane, swimming with Sharks in Hawaii, Underwater with Great White Sharks in South Australia, Hang Gliding, FreeDiving, Scubadiving the great barrier reef, Underwater 360 while freediving. all though either periscope/ facebook live generally with a gopro and a phone or taking my phone underwater with a cabled antenna on the surface….

Is it possible to connect LiveU Solo to Wirecast, so that i can switch between two different cameras in a stream?

WWPTV · September 14, 2017 at 2:53 pm

I film Motorsports all over Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania. Streamed in NC (1 time), VA (7 times). I usually have 3 bars of LTE Verizon (Straight Talk Wireless Hotspot) and Sprint (iPhone 6). Best was when I have 5 bars of LTE. Viewers really noticed a big difference. YouTube seems better on uploads and playback ability. Also working with Sprint Mobility partner for Cell Extenders in a remote setting. You got 1 bar of LTE, no problem. Boosts signals by 200x.

Kenny Shem · October 12, 2017 at 4:22 pm

how does it compare to teradek cube?

Monish Ranjan Naik · October 17, 2017 at 3:14 am

I have done live stream with lte

Rome Awde · October 23, 2017 at 10:33 pm

will this connect to a Sling Studio to get multi camera live?

TJ McCormick · January 9, 2018 at 10:51 pm

Live streamed a church service using an AJA Helo, great box when you have solid inet, but i set the setting too high and the stream was choppy. epic fail, but learned some valuable lessons. i'm looking into the LU200 or LiveU Solo as an option for my future streams.

HandyDadTV · January 10, 2018 at 2:04 pm

Great info but that thing is expensive! I used Facebook Live on location at an annual charity event just using the Facebook Page app on my iPhone 6S. Most important factors to good live streaming is stability of video and quality of audio. Smartphones have good enough cameras, but you really need to use a stabilizer and an external mic for professional results.

Great Info! I plan to purchase Solo today! Yes, I definitely live stream. 90% has been from remote locations (Cellular Bonding) around our island of O'ahu. Provide local News stream to location News Stations for their broadcast, Aerial from drone, Little League Baseball, High Surf Warning surf, Outdoor Beach Weddings, Miss Hawaii USA Pageants and many other type of special events that are located at remote locations.

Good for live streaming, Vishal Digital Malad West, Mumbai India is selling it.

Midnight Creative Services · January 10, 2019 at 3:32 am

So in addition to the $45 a month service you have to pay for TWO 4G Mobile GSM USB aircard accounts preferably VERIZON and AT&T or whoever.
And pay those monthly services on top of liveU’s $45 a month service
That’s one expensive hobby.
No thank you
