HOW to SURVIVE a ROAD TRIP ?!

Published by Darron Toy on

So in my previous video we learned all the various things required to plan an epic road trip and now I’ve teamed up with Ford again to show you how to survive that road trip. On this road trip we’re going from Los Angeles to San Francisco taking the world-famous pacific coast highway Having a plug-in hybrid means that you can charge your battery as you are driving but for long stretches keep it topped up with gas. Clean your car before and during your trip. Now since we’re gonna be spending a lot of time in our car looking for additional smart features to help us on the road is a real bonus Heated seats and audio and climate and anything else. There is also a whole bunch of driver assist technology. Cruise control parking assist yes. Have a GPS map and the physical map. Knowing where you are going is kind of important. Find friends to join you Hey I’m Olivia. I’ve done many a solo road trips, but with friends it is just so much more fun. If you’re like me and you’re taking the long shift you are going to be stopping for coffee Do it. It’s a great decision. Packing your food beforehand in a cooler if you have a dietary requirements like myself. A cooler is a great way to guarantee you’ll have food on the road. That means eating less fast food and tasty and so good for you snacks. Entertainment options. I like audiobooks podcast, music-streaming, downloading or satellite radio and if you aren’t driving, movies or TV shows. Have some awesome apps installed like Ford pass. These are so so helpful as they have options such as roadside assistance accessible 24/7 for help with towing jump-starting, changing a flat tire, fuel delivery and more. Ford dealer information so if your car does need to be serviced, parking guide for when you want to go out, and you know explore my wallet to pay for that parking Enjoy the scenic route. You chose this route for a reason so enjoy it because it’s usually slower and more trickier to drive, but the views. Divide and conquer, ie managing the division of labor and knowing your role if you are traveling with other drivers for example some people are good at navigating while others maybe not so much. So am I turning right? Some people are good at finding restaurants to eat at. Yum, yes. good choice. Some people enjoy driving through cities or at night or through rush hour and others they like to sleep. Rush hour is an awful time to drive anywhere, so be aware of when you are driving through larger cities during rush hour. Day versus night. I’ve drove the night shift, the all night late night drive. It’s not great. However if you have enough drivers to switch out it’s a great way to cover long stretches of time by sleeping in shifts. Plan your toilet stops because we all need to go. So pay attention to your rest stops, aka, free outdoor toilets. Yes free, or just grab another coffee and use their washrooms. Even if you’re not focused too much on the budget as the purpose of your road trip, costs can quickly add up if you are not paying attention. Know when to sleep and stop when you’re tired. Taking proper breaks especially at night. The road can wait. If you are to tired to drive and focus, your safety is more important so don’t push yourself beyond your limits. And last, stop and enjoy the journey it’s not all about driving you know. So, stop and enjoy the destination which can be just as good as the journey. Now that our road trip is complete, next up, we are exploring around San Francisco via bike. So stay tuned.

In Alaska, everything is so far away. A six hour drive (one way) to Wal-Mart is just a grocery run. I'm hoping to go on a roadtrip through the Alcan Highway some this year!

Do you need a Ford for FordPass?

Thomas BjΓΈrkhaug · February 11, 2017 at 9:13 am

On my solo road trips i found that in some cases, try to plan as little as possible, whilst planning can be good, my best moments were never planned. When i went across The US including HWY 1 from SF to SD and across to Miami and up to NY. Many of my days on the road was with only one thing planned going east, deciding where to stay at my lunch stop or even later sometimes. And even breaking down can be a great experience, as when my Mustang broke down in Colorado, and i met some of the nicest people i have ever seen, who took me into their home, and helped me register a new car at their address, since i didn't actually live in the US. But roadtrips are fun, because it makes the journey a bigger part of the trip instead of just enjoying the destination. πŸ™‚

Best road trips involved either original YouTube gatherings, or going up to northern Wisconsin, partying till the bars close, sleeping behind a Church, breakfast at dawn, outdoor recreation till nap time in the woods (bear country), partying till the bars close, rinse & repeat. πŸ™‚

Last road trip involved a white out blizzard that had been forecast as a chance of scattered flurries. grrrrr

Next road trip is in a couple hours. Southerly towards the sun for some fun… indoors. πŸ™‚

Hey Nadine, I think you are doing a really good job with these sponsored videos. You still are including your regular informative content but without going over the top with the product placement. Keep up the good work and don't listen to all the haters who complain and think everything in life should be free.

My survival items for Family road trips

Headphones
Phone
downloaded songs on Spotify
Blanket
Sweatshirt
Pillow
Markers
Notebook
Most importantly LOTS OF BOOKS

purplecatlover1825 randompizza · June 26, 2019 at 10:43 pm

For my family road trip I learned this on our trip to colerado

I prefer being in the back with all the luggage and stuff, they usually put blankets on top so I'm in a cacoon of stuff and I'm tiny so it's great it also makes it so I can be in a lot of comfortable positions because I literally cant get to my seatbelts it's also secluded and away from my siblings (they drive me crazy)
