I went to Cuba back in February, and I recorded hours worth of footage while I was there. I still haven't gotten around to editing a lot though because I feel so overwhelmed with how much footage I have. I'm going to try the "Use a timer" technique, and see if that helps me get through it. Wish me luck! -Michael

If anyone could help me i'd be incredibly grateful, it would obviously be incredible if you yourself gave me some pointers Thomas but I'd still be more than happy with anyone interested in filmmaking and travel, so I just made my second travel video and was wondering if anyone would be interested giving me some feedback on it, because I made one for fun when I travelled to Australia a while back and after making this second one it seemed to be getting a lot of positive comments some people even say I should do it for a living which seems crazy but that would be a dream and i'd absolutely consider making more if it's something I might actually be good at if I practiced, so it would be great to hear what other filmmakers think of the video! It's a Cinematic style video I shot in Cancun Mexico during springbreak!

Thank you so much for this! I know you made this video 2 years ago. But this is some really helpful stuff!
I have wanted to make a vlog about traveling for a long time! It actually took me listening to Jeremy Cowart to realize that this was something that I really needed to start doing! The reason I want to make a travel vlog is for a couple of different reason.
1. Show people the world!
So many people have never traveled and its something that I want to do and allow others to see too.
2. Help people learn about different cultures
3. I want to make enough money to pay for my travels
I am a broke College student I don't have money, most of the money I made is used traveling
4. I love to travel and I want to remember my adventures!

Thank you so much for all these tips! I really appreciate it!

I would like to travel to a lot of countries, make a lot of videos life stories of numerous women, interviews and my adventures to show my children in 25 years and not for the money purpose. I really liked the second type of videos when you can touch emotions of other people. And the girl participated in the shooting is pretty beautiful. It is important to build an emotional connection with someone who will watch. However, it is not a job and I need a steady income to learn how to do it decently, to plan my trips and activities, to engage with others. I really like the advice to edit every day for 30 minutes +. Consistency is the key.

Thank you for this clear video!
I filmed my trip in 2015, but never made a travel video out of it.. I found it 'scary' to start, I guess.
I'm going on another big trip this year, so to prepare for that, I'm going to edit those 2015 footage now!

the last tipp isn't just for editing videos, it's for work you have to do in general! set time frames you work in and take breaks for about 10min after for example 60 or 90 minutes of work this will increase your productivity and will keep you motivated to do the work:)

I’m glad I watched this. I have an overseas trip coming up this weekend. Great 👍🏾 and simple tips to use. I didn’t know that there are specific styles for shooting. Editing while shooting is very important! It allows you to stick to a vision and review what you’ve shot so far! Why didn’t I come across these sooner to use in my channel?

The reasons why I'm interested in making travel video are I want to share my lifestyle with people and influence them to take a chance to travel while they still have the time and energy to do so.

John Vancamper · May 30, 2019 at 12:38 pm

Hi Thomas. Thanks for sharing. I'd like to capture my frequent mini holidays wild camping overseas. I want to show people that it doesn't take much money to enjoy travel and adventure. Also you don't need much time off work. These are boundaries for a lot of people. I'm fortunate to work shifts of 4 on and then 4 off plus 20 paid holidays per year but my style of travel can be just 2 days or even overnight. I search Skyscanner for the cheapest flights from the UK to anywhere interesting (or hot in the winter ) Any that fit my off duty ( or nearly fit ) I book. Sometimes I match up really cheap accommodation but usually I just take my little bivi bag style tent (Rab Ridge Raider) and a ground mat. Often not even a sleeping bag as my down jacket is very warm, lightweight and packs very small. It's such a feeling of freedom to walk out of an airport with no set plan and no place to have to be except the same airport in time for your flight home. It takes a little getting used to but when you can enjoy 4 nights in the scorching Canary Islands during the miserable British winter for only the flight costs of 50 quid or so, it's worth getting used to. I went there 6 times in 2018 plus France (4) and Italy (ONCE) It also shows you what's really important. As long as you have shelter, a little simple food and clean water, any sunshine destination can be heaven. I sunbathe on the same beaches as the tourists who stay in hotels. I shower on the beach after a swim just like they do (except I take my own soap lol.) I can eat in the same places as the tourists if I like but mostly I eat as I would at home….simply and cheaply. I carry all my kit with me at under 3kg. I make my bed 2 minutes before I sleep and I pack it away 2 minutes after I wake. Never had any interference from anyone. I love walking and with no itinerary I'm free to pause where I like for as long as I like. So my story isn't really the place I'm visiting it's the way I'm doing it. Thanks for crystallising that idea for me. Happy travels everyone. John
