How to Change Screenshots Save Folder Location on MacOS (Screen Capture, Print Screen)

Published by Darron Toy on

Changing the screenshots a folder on Mac OS as you may know Mac OS is set to place all screenshots on the desktop what if there was a way you could put your screen shot somewhere else on your mac instead on the desktop to do this first you create a folder anywhere on your mac for this purpose and you can then use it to store or screenshots and you capture on your mac in this example i have created a folder called screenshots in the documents directory next go ahead and open terminal you find terminal and find our applications utilities now into the following command space after location and then drag and drop the screenshot folder you created into terminal and hit enter next enter the following command in terminal and hit enter this will reset the system user interface server on your machine so that it recognizes the changes you just made and it’s done now whenever you take some screenshots it will save it to the new screenshots folder now to change the screenshots a folder back to desktop do the same just replace to the correct path of the desktop folder normally located after the user directory and you reset it to the default saved screenshot folder the desktop if this video was useful to you subscribe and I see you in the next videos Cheers

This video should be featured in the apple support page, the easiest to follow video I've seen so far regarding this issue. Thanks for this!

Hi- I did this and it worked perfectly two weeks ago. All of a sudden it seems to stop working. I have redone the steps. I even made a new folder to see if that was somehow the issue. Any idea what I have done wrong or how I can fix it?

You say, that you create folder named "screenshot" but instead of that you name the folder "Shortcuts". 😄

The third one I tried — worked straightaway! Thank you for the drag'n drop part (helps us non-programmers)!!
