Eating Tempura (天ぷら) at Tenmatsu Restaurant, Tokyo

it's mark Wiens Here I am in Tokyo Japan and about to have my very first tempura dining experience and I am uh at a restaurant called ten months to live good so I ordered the mock Buddha belly set which is a some tempura and then I think it comes with sashimi as well cannot wait right now this is so awesome actually this is like kind of my first fine-dining dish type of restaurant in Tokyo and it's actually a good price as it's lunchtime so it gives me in the front there and bar seating awesome yes I really don't know exactly what I'm doing but I have been watching some other people to see how to do this I guess this is the tempura sauce let's see pour in some to the main bowl this is like radish shredded radish I think that I think you dump the whole thing in there I dropped a bit me transfer the temple rod from the chef placing your own plate and oh so I suppose my mom is really nice here really awesome champion and then take a bite of this we're told that in Carmel isn't about it but that is by far the best music tempo table I've ever had in my life and that sauce is just so light and then fresh tasting boom not too salty but just all the flavors are just outstanding that's that's really good okay I think this is a piece of squid Twitter get that bad boy that is what is so tender there zero chewiness to that squid wow that's tasty and just a nice coating of batter crispy and fresh this guy is taking deep fried things to a new level for me okay I have also ordered this stunningly beautiful sashimi bowl in with my set and it looks like pieces of sashimi or with seaweed and rice at the bottom this looks awesome too you might be giving us more tempura awesome that's a huge bowl it's amazing – good quality tuna the warm rice on the bottom a lot of seaweed in there this is a definite treat of Odile right here please go awesome Deborah awesome sashimi Bowl and look at your tiny little tiny little clams or something they're more micro okay I got it out okay I got just one more bite of sashimi and one more shrimp tempura I really don't want this meal to ever end oh yeah it's delightful and my last trip abroad ah give it a nice bath and in the juice I'm just going to go ahead and soak it in the juice and I think I will one bite this shrimp for the final fight because I want that flavor of the shrimp tempura to linger in my mouth for the rest of the day I think I'm not going to swallow I'm going to score that in my mouth mmm so good that was my first time to have come back in Japan and it just outed blue away every other template I've ever had outside of Japan forget about that buffet kept food on this one just absolutely kills it awesome food the only thing that could make it better is if I had like 25 more plates of that and I would be even happier than I am right now but then again maybe moderation is the key to deliciousness as well anyway that was awesome awesome

Mark Wiens before he developed the head sway of ecstasy. I actually prefer this video better than his newer ones. He feels much more natural here.

I love japanese food and just can’t wait watch you eat so deliciously !! Love you videos !! But shouldn’t mix the radish and the sause , rather drip some soy sause in the radish .

YOU SHOULD NOT MIX THE RADISH WITH THE TARE SAUCE LIKE THAT! appropriate way to eat it is you POUR little bit the SAUCE over the RADISH (daikon) mountain, and you take little bit of the mixture the tempura and eat. the daikon should be still at that round mountain shape.

Question: With the sashimi bowl, what type of rice is underneath the fish? It is sushi rice, or just regular steamed rice?

I lived in Southern Japan back in 2005… while similar in foods I found Fukuoka city to be better than Tokyo…. I don't know why, maybe cause there was less tourism. both places great food, but I prefer southern Japan food
