Best Canon Travel Camera 2019!!

Published by Darron Toy on

a big shout-out to my friends over at Squarespace for sponsoring today's video hey there my name is Chris winter and in this video I'm going to share with you a couple of my favorite travel cameras so hopefully I can help you figure out which one might be the right one for you so today's question comes from Thomas and Thomas says hey Chris I'm about to go on a holiday for two months to Southeast Asia I'm looking for a small and portable camera maybe a DSLR maybe a mirrorless camera I was wondering which ones you would recommend well that's really cool Thomas that you're going on a trip I love going to Southeast Asia my favorite places are probably Bali and Thailand and I've got a couple of cameras here which might hopefully work for you I think it's good that you choose to maybe get a mirrorless camera or maybe get a DSLR now both have their pros and cons obviously ADSL I was going to be slightly bigger than a mirrorless camera but definitely you can get a nice and portable DSLR these days with cameras such as the brand-new Canon so3 so probably the first camera that I would recommend is the Canon M 50 now this one here is relatively new probably around about a year old and it is a smaller DSLR but does pack quite a lot of features especially if you want to maybe record some video while you're overseas now this one here has a flip out screen which is really quite kind of nice also if you want to be taking kind of selfies or maybe a group selfie shot because you can actually flip it around and see yourself and also the people you're going to be taking a photo with whereas a lot of other mirrorless cameras might just have a flip up screen which might not be as good and the reason why I was saying that this works well for video is because it also shoots in 4k so you're going to be getting a high resolution video and it also does have dual pixel autofocus granted it isn't in that 4k mode you can get a really nice dual pixel autofocus in 1080p and it works really well the camera itself is really quite small compared to your egg DSLR as you can see right here we've got the Canon so3 hopefully you can see that alright and we've got the Canon M 50 this one does have a beefy portrait lens on it an 85 millimeter but you can see that the body size is a little bit different even though the so3 is quite a small camera so let's now talk about the canon so3 it is a fantastic camera it did just come out maybe a few months ago so it is really quite new and it is a successor to the Canada – which was a really nice camera as well now this one here has a few nice features as well again we've got that 4k we've got that dual pixel autofocus but we do have that traditional SLR kind of or DSLR kind of form factor and what I really like about that is that it's a little bit more rugged than these kind of mirrorless cameras which can be a little bit smaller now it doesn't mean you can go and you know thrash these cameras especially on your travels but they do kind of handle maybe a drop a little bit better than something like a very small mirrorless camera the other thing that I really like about DSLR in general is that you can have more lenses to attach to them which can really change the way that your photos and videos are going to look so for example if you want to be maybe vlogging or something you could put on a 10 to 18 millimeter lens which it's going to be really wide so when you have your shot right here you're going to be getting a lot more in focus or you're going to be getting a lot more in frame and you can also maybe use that for landscape shots and for architecture shots which it's going to really open up your shots you can also put on a 85 millimeter portrait lens and then get a really nice background blur now of course you can do that with a mirrorless camera like the Canon M 50 as well but they are generally limited because they're relatively new so they don't have as many lenses in their lineup whereas DSLRs have been around for 50 no it's at least 50 years these have only been around for say 10 years and the native lenses aren't as many again you can get an adapter for the Canon M 50 but you are going to be making it a slightly larger camera so we're really not the best idea for that right there now another camera that I don't unfortunately have in the studio right now but I do love is the canon g7x and it's actually really good timing because the g7 X Mark 3 just got announced and that's a really nice successor to the g7 X Mark 2 which is actually one of the most popular vlogging cameras and travel cameras especially in that kind of compact size so essentially we've got a DSLR which is going to be the largest size we've got a canon m 50 which is going to be slightly smaller because it's a mirrorless camera with a detachable lens and then you've got something like the canon g7x mark 3 which is a compact camera it doesn't have a detachable lens essentially you can just zoom in and out with that fixed lens that's a really nice camera as well and the reason why I like that one the especially the g7 X Mark 3 is that we've got a microphone which you can add on a external microphone now to get some better quality sound and we are going to be having 4k again in the canon g7x mark 3 which is really quite cool because most cameras these days are going to 4k for travel it's really going to be up to you do you want to have the best image quality I'd probably go for something like a DSLR just because they're very versatile and they're proven if you want something smaller that maybe isn't going to be as good it still can be very very good go for the Canon M 50 especially if you still want to change some lenses but if you want the most compact camera and one that you can just have in your pocket and use it for vlogging use it for photos I'd go for the canon g7x mark 3 and guys before we finish off I just like to send a big shout out to my friends over at Squarespace for Well I missed this notification! Ah, how annoying….. Loving the smaller DSLR I once had the Canon 100D before I traded for the 60D (not much difference admittedly)! M50 is absolutely tiny! And handy ☺️ great video and details ☺️ thanks chris
