Descending like a fucking boss

This guy has been the shot in the arm the Tour needed. I haven't seen a rider set the tempo like him since maybe Claudio Chiapucci in the early 90s and I think Alaphilippe is better. His stage wins have been masterful but his defence of the yellow – helped in no small measure by some excellent support from Quickstep – has been the stuff of legend. This video shows why. It's not that he can't climb but on places like thew Tourmalet and the Galbier it shows. You can make up 30 seconds by being a good descender but you can lose five minutes on the climb. This descent shows just how determined he is to retain the yellow at a time when most would have perhaps had a better climb but a much more conservative descent. This was all stops out. He's got the technique and he's fearless. We've seen it before – last year in the descent into Bagnères-de-Luchon – but as Robbie McEwan said, "Fearless and no technique equals hospital."

And some still pretend disk brakes don't have an advantage over regular rim brakes !!! Being the only disk-brake equipped, JA proved them wrong on that descent … in dry conditions!

The man is a beast in descents. He has no fear on his soul. It was a thing of beauty watching him go pass all those riders like the road runner. He recovered beautifully 👏👏

Do cyclists practice sharp turns and crashes?

Shows why some of the best bike handlers and explosive riders come from cyclo-cross: Alaphilippe, Peter sagan, etc..
